WelcomeWelcome to the Hampshire County Youth Wind Band website. The Hampshire County Youth Wind Band (HCYWB) is one of a number of youth music ensembles run by the Hampshire Music Service. The band was founded in September 2008 with the aim of giving performance opportunities to the many talented woodwind, brass and percussion students in Hampshire. Membership is open to all young instrumentalists who are resident or in full time education in Hampshire. The HCYWB rehearses fortnightly on Saturdays, 10:30 am to 3:20 pm throughout term time at the Henry Beaufort school, Winchester. Additional rehearsals are sometimes scheduled if required for a specific event. Please see the Rehearsal Schedule for full details and directions. The band perform a number of concerts during the school year both on their own and with other county ensembles. As part of the HCYWB pyramid of ensembles, we also have the Hampshire Flute Choir and the Hampshire Double Reed Ensemble. Both these groups are ensembles in their own right and perform several times during the year. The 2009-2010 year was an exciting year with the flute and clarinet sections joining other young county musicians to take part in the 2009 Schools Proms, and the whole band performing at the Anvil in Basingstoke together with other county ensembles. Our Flute Choir also took part in the finals of the National Music For Youth Festival in Birmingham in 2010. 2010 saw the HCYWB lead the 2010 Wind Band Festival at the Anvil in Basingstoke and embark on their first tour, visiting and performing a number of concerts in Estonia. Why not read the tour blog. For information on our upcoming concerts please refer to the Events Listing. Phillip Scott, Hampshire Music Service, was appointed as the new HCYWB Director as of September 2011 |
